The importance of oral irrigation in removing oral biofilm

08 Nov 2011

Oral irrigation involves the direct application of a pulsating stream of water or mouthwash to help remove the microorganisms that exist on teeth, on and around gums, in the spaces between teeth and in hard-to-reach areas like periodontal pockets, implants, braces, etc.

The ideal complement

An oral irrigator is proven to be a safe and efficient instrument for improving and maintaining oral health in a wide variety of people and their different oral afflictions. It has been designed to be used in conjunction with other mechanical hygiene techniques, like daily brushing. Use of the different tips (Orthodontic, Pik Pocket®, Plaque Seeker®) allows for easy access to areas where a normal toothbrush cannot reach, therefore improving oral hygiene and obtaining a more healthy mouth.

The benefits of oral irrigation

The use of Waterpik® oral irrigators together with a manual toothbrush significantly improves oral health:

• Better removal of oral biofilm (bacterial plaque), preventing the appearance of caries and other oral afflictions.

• Allows for intense cleaning power while no harm is done to oral tissues.

• Reduces bleeding and improves gingival inflammation

• Makes care and cleaning easy for people with special oral hygiene needs, such as, people with braces, crowns and implants or in diabetics.

• Provides a fresher and cleaner feeling in the oral cavity .
