Gingival inflammation caused by oral biofilm build-up

08 Nov 2011

Maintaining adequate daily oral hygiene is essential for the prevention and control of gingivitis, since the biofilm is a critical factor in its manifestation. The bacteria in biofilms are more resistant because they are protected by the matrix in which they are embedded and because of their more resistant phenotypic expression. Once a biofilm has developed, it must be removed by way of physical or chemical means.

Physical methods for the control of gingival inflammation

To ensure greater antimicrobial effects, it is crucial that the oral biofilm first be broken up physically.

VITIS Toothbrushes

Toothbrushing plays an important role in disrupting and efficiently removing the oral biofilm which causes gingival inflammation. Brushing breaks up the oral biofilm matrix, guaranteeing better results for antimicrobial agents.
