Because of the difficulty involved in cleaning interdental spaces, this is often neglected when performing oral hygiene. This means an increased risk of developing oral diseases and disorders such as caries, periodontal and peri-implant diseases or halitosis. 

That is why it is imperative to emphasise at the clinic why carrying out proper interproximal hygiene that ensures both the removal of dental plaque, or biofilm, and the reduction of gingival inflammation is so important. The “Current Research” section focuses on these aspects and reviews the leading studies that have appeared in various scientific journals justifying the need to use interproximal hygiene tools.
